There are festivals, parades, art shows, and live music throughout South Baltimore Peninsula and the surrounding areas. Some of the city’s best restaurants are located here, and the vast number of places to eat and drink means that there is something for everyone’s palate. There are many shopping districts in South Baltimore Peninsula, both old and new, with one-of-a-kind items, boutique finds, locally made goods along with chain stores and large retailers.
Children living in South Baltimore Peninsula attend schools in the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS). The school system is home to Western High School, the oldest girls’ public high school in the United States. Baltimore City College, the third oldest high school in the country, is also in BCPSS.
There are four parks in South Baltimore Peninsula: Federal Hill Park, Riverside Park, Latrobe Park and Swann Park, and one recreation center in Locust Park. Riverside Park features a pool amid beautiful open spaces. South Baltimore Peninsula parks feature playgrounds, volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, athletic fields, and picnic areas. The city’s Parks and Recreation department offers classes, activities and programs along with sports leagues for adults and youths, including baseball, basketball, football, biking, skateboarding, fitness, disc golf, boxing, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, dance classes, arts and crafts, computer classes, after school programs, tutoring, play groups, holiday parties, camps, Frisbee, kickball, and aerobics.
